February is Sweet Potato Month

by Linda ~ February 5th, 2008

Of the many holidays dedicated to February - sweet potato month brought many thoughts to mind not the least of which is the Sweet Potato Queens. These women have raised the meaning of rituals to a new science. I took one of their books on a Habitat for Humanity trip in Budapest a few years ago and ended up reading the book aloud to my fellow habitaters every evening with hilarious results. These women have put ritual to the way they dress (the tiara being my favorite adornment) talk, cook and befriend each other and their friends. And they created almost a movement when they created themselves as the Sweet Potato Queens.

Women have a natural way of bonding and creating special moments for themselves, families and friends. I know the guys do too but with women it is so much more “out there”.

If you and your friends have created a “movement” like the Sweet Potato Queens, I would love to hear from you.

I love the Sweet Potatoe Queens too! I’ll have to read their book! It seems to me that the Power of Rituals is creating a movement too!
