Baby Boomers a Valuable Commodity

by Linda ~ February 22nd, 2008

In the February 22, 2008 USA Today issue it was reported that states are now looking to  baby boomers to bring or perhaps keep, their years of expertise and knowledge in the work force.  It is a major shift in public policy in a nation that has treated the aging of 79 million boomers as a likely drain on social and entitlement programs.

This large, educated, prosperous generation has much to offer to the world at large as well as to their own community.  In Arizona a quarter of the population is over 60.  In California the over 60 population will almost double by 2020.  It’s a two edged sword:  Baby Boomers are retiring and leaving massive voids in the workforce and also putting a drain on the social programs in place to support them in the aging process.

Are you a Baby Boomer?  We want to hear your story.  What are you doing to transition from one phase to another; downsizing, retiring, travelling, starting a business, grandparenting.  How do you celebrate these transitions and make them important and intentional? Let us know so we can pass your experience along to others who will also benefit.
