Daylight Savings Time-What to do with that extra hour

by Linda ~ March 8th, 2008

Clock_for_blog.jpgHave you ever heard the story that the person who came up with the idea of daylight savings time was a salesman for outdoor grills and furniture.  The rationale being that if people had more longer days in the year, they would buy more outdoor furniture and barbecue grills.  Another urban myth as the research I did for this post substantiates that it was actually Benjamin Franklin who came up with the idea.

The subject of this post is:  “What to do with that extra hour” we get in the spring.  Perhaps many of you may argue that there really is no extra hour but let’s pretend there is.  One whole hour to many people is a gift to be used wisely or frivously, however you choose.

Since I write and post about how to connect, cultivate and celebrate the relationships of your life, I would like to suggest that we use that extra hour to reach out to someone in our life that perhaps needs support, or a laugh, or someone you have been yearning to reconnect to for awhile.  Who have you been thinking about lately that you just must get in touch with?  Who in your life is going through a tough time that a call from you would let them know they are not alone.  Who have you not talked to for awhile because of a misunderstanding or argument.  Would reaching out with an apology help the situation and make both of you feel better.  How about a child that needs a hug or one hour of your undivided attention.

Bottom line of all of these questions is to use this extra hour to connect to the relationships in y0ur life that are not only important to you but that you cherish.  My mother always told me that if I wanted to feel better, help someone else.  It always worked.

So when you wake up in the morning with that extra hour give it to someone you love!
